"There's No Budget for That": How to Keep the Deal Moving

You've run a great discovery. The demo landed. The champion is bought in, the business case stacks up, and the project scope is right. Then finance gets involved:
"There is no budget for that this year!"
Every technology seller has heard it. And too often, it's where a good deal goes quiet, gets pushed to next financial year, or comes back with half the scope cut out.
But "no budget" rarely means "no value". It usually means the customer can't absorb a large upfront cost right now. That's a problem you can solve.
What "no budget" really costs
When a customer delays or shrinks a project because of budget timing, everyone loses:
- Deals slip into the next quarter, or the next financial year, and some never come back.
- Scope gets cut, with integrations, data migration and training pushed to a "phase two" that may never happen.
- Projects underdeliver, because the customer bought what they could afford, not what they needed.
- Competitors get a second chance while the opportunity sits waiting for budget.
For the customer, waiting means more months of manual workarounds, poor reporting and outdated systems. For you, it means a longer sales cycle and a smaller deal.
Turn a capital decision into a monthly one
With Monthlii, your customers can spread the cost of the full project into predictable monthly payments, while you're paid in full upfront.
That changes the conversation:
- Budget objections become easier to handle. A £60,000 project is a hard sign-off. A monthly payment that fits existing budgets often isn't.
- Customers buy the full scope. When the cost is spread, there's less pressure to cut implementation, integrations or training.
- Deals close faster. Smaller monthly commitments can often be approved without waiting for the next budget cycle.
- Projects succeed. Customers who buy the right scope get better outcomes, and become better references.
- You protect your cash flow. You're paid upfront, with no extended payment terms or chasing staged invoices.
Not just the licence
Monthlii funds the whole technology project, including:
- Software licences and subscriptions
- Implementation and configuration
- Consultancy and project management
- Data migration and systems integration
- Development work
- Training and onboarding
- Managed services and cloud migration
- IT hardware, servers and laptops, including installation
- Annual software renewals
Renewals are worth highlighting. A large annual renewal invoice can put even a happy customer under pressure. Offering monthly payments at renewal time makes it easier for them to say yes, and easier for you to keep them.
Make finance part of how you sell
The best time to offer monthly payments isn't after "no budget". It's before. When finance is part of your proposal from the start, the customer is weighing a monthly cost against the value of the project, not a large invoice against a stretched budget.
Monthlii partners get the tools to do that, from quotes and calculators to marketing content and support for your sales team.

FAQs
Do we have to choose between the API and working with a person?
No. You get both and choose what will work best for your business. Integrating streamlines the process, straightforward deals flow through the API, widget or Quotation Builder with no involvement from your team. When a deal is complex, you call your account manager. Each deal takes the route it needs.
How fast are decisions?
Decisions come back in minutes. Complex cases, such as larger or multi-year deals, take no more than 1 hour.
What if a funder says no?
Because we work with a panel of over 25 funders, a decline from one isn't the end. Your account manager will look for another route across the panel and keep you and your customer informed.
Who takes the risk if a customer misses a payment?
We do! You've been paid in full upfront, so credit risk and collections sit with us, not with you.
What happens if the customer adds licences, modules or services mid-contract?
No problem. We can add another agreement to run alongside the customer's existing one. They can finish on the same date as the current agreement, so everything renews together, or run on their own term if that suits the customer better.
Can we finance multi-year contracts and bundles?
Yes. The multi-year contract builder packages software licences, hardware and services into one agreement, with a standard annual uplift built in, and gives your customer one flat monthly fee.
Can we offer 0% finance, deferred starts or milestone payments?
Yes. You can cover the finance cost to offer 0%, delay your customer's first payment until go-live, or release funds in stages through an implementation. Your account manager will set out what each option costs, so you can choose the one that fits your offer. Subject to funder and status.
Can our resellers offer monthlii too?
Yes. We can set up your channel partners with the same monthly offer and rates, so your customers see consistent pricing however the deal is sold.
How much developer time does integration take?
Two to three days for the full API build, spread across the five stages. The drop-in widget needs none, and many partners start there.
